Who is Lilli Muller?
I am a multi-disciplinary artist living and currently working in Los Angeles, CA USA. I was born and raised in Germany at the borderline of East Germany with their barbed-wire fences and minefields in our backyards. I came to the United States decades ago to find my artistic voice and have been creating ever since. You will find the red thread of humanity running through all my work, merging the “new world” I found with my traditional roots.
Campaign:
I am honored to have been invited for the 3rd time to Venice to create an immersive installation during the 2022 Venice Biennale, this time specifically in such a spiritual location. “The Global Supper” is a contemporary 3-D art installation to be presented in Venice, Italy April 15- July 15, 2022. My site-specific installation is a 3-D extension of Tintoretto’s great last masterpiece, “The Last Supper." It will be created in the historic cloister courtyard of Madonna dell Orto in Venice, Italy during the 59th Venice Biennale. The funding raised will go directly to the cost of creating this installation and all expenses associated with it (production cost, insurance, transport, etc)
Why?
Through the Global Supper, I am attempting to address the grave disparity, inequality, and global crisis in which we currently find ourselves - such as the many lives lost due to malnourishment, lack of resources, environmental degradation, and incessant wars. When walking through this symbolic “dinner party,” you will be surrounded by the brick walls of the dining area, hung with my drawings depicting hands and eyes as the mirror of the soul, each one with a story to tell of a life lived. Each country will be metaphorically “seated” within the exhibit at a massive table, under one roof, thereby symbolizing the serving of “humanity.” The place settings will contain a hand-embroidered denim mask with one word describing humanity, stretched over a red glass hand-blown dinner plate. The white Italian linen placemat will be hand-embroidered with a symbol for each country, the wine glasses filled according to the GDP level of each country.
This exhibition serves as a contemplation to provoke a dialog, an exchange of personal stories between the viewers through the discovery of the disparities between countries through the stats provided at each place setting. The installation serves as a metaphor attempting to evoke change, as we strive to work together in solidarity to find sustainable solutions for the healing of our planet and mankind, individually, globally, environmentally, and economically.
What We Need & What You Get:
I am primarily funded by a handful of art collectors and a few local foundations that have been supporting my work over the years,. I am 5 weeks away from raising the remaining $8000 to reach my final goal. The money raised will cover all production costs, materials, insurance, transportation, lodging, and the required taxes needed to make this project a reality. Every dollar and a contribution of any amount is met with great gratitude.
We have some exciting perks lined up, including limited edition prints, photo prints, exhibition catalogs, original artworks, and art books while supplies last. Of course, you can always request a special piece of art or a private commission!
The Impact:
With every country in this world represented at the table, this exhibition serves as contemplation to work together in solidarity to find solutions of sustainability and the healing of our planet, My hope is to bring awareness and inspire unity by creating an ongoing dialog that will inspire community building at the local level.
